Expert opinion on Palette toners

.

Would Pallete toners be recommended by professionals who work with all hair types on a daily basis? "I am not fond of the Palette range of paints and products from Schwarzkopf. I mostly associate them with touch-ups after unsuccessful colourings, which I often find in the salon." - admits hairdresser, stylist and blogger, Adrianna Pydzinska

And what does she think of toners?

.

Both Ashy and Platinum are toners for blonde hair - and lighter hair at that. They can help to quickly and easily cancel out yellow tones, although the effect is short-lived. They do not require an activator.

.
I once used to freshen up a light blonde - the effect was satisfactory. You have to be careful with these - especially Ashy - for sensitised hair. Darker and grey-purple highlights can happen on the lengths and ends.

It is essential to apply quickly and observe how the hair reacts to the cool tones.

Palette toners - user reviews

.

Palette toners are perceived more as a budget rescue option when there is no time for professional colouring.

Mostly cited as advantages by female users:

.
  • price,
  • .
  • ease of application - just apply, wait and rinse,
  • .
  • ergonomic packaging,
  • .
  • quick reduction of yellow highlights - although it didn't always remove all of them,
  • .

Users often complain about the poor colouring effects of both products, the overly intense and chemical smell, the slight dryness of the hair and the purple ends.

FAQ

.
. Which dye will cover yellow hair tones?.

Yellow tones are best offset by a toner with purple pigments. If you want to find out more about what a toner is and how it works or check out the before and after effects, be sure to check out our hair toner ranking.

. How long to keep hair toner on hair.

It is usual to keep hair toner on the hair for about 20 minutes. The longer the toner is on the hair, the more intense the effects will be. Remember that light-coloured and sensitised hair catches the pigment more quickly, so watch how your hair reacts to the toner. Read the manufacturer's leaflet and directions before application.

. Does toner dry out hair?.

Good toners do not dry out, damage or weigh down the hair. Traditional colouring is much more invasive than toning. It is worth using toners when your hair is tired from years of colouring. It is also a great solution for people who are just starting out with hair colouring - the effects only last for a few or a dozen washes, which gives you the opportunity to experiment and test colours.

.

Thanks to the presence of nutrients, hair is soft and shiny after using the toner.

. How to choose a hair toner?.

Hair toner should be chosen according to the condition and condition of your hair. The results you want to achieve are also important. Choose toners with a clean and safe formulation (no ammonia or PPD or substances that cause allergic reactions), and with added nutrients to nurture your hair. For more expert tips and advice from a cosmetologist, check out the hair toner ranking.

. How to apply hair toner yourself.

Self-applying toner at home is quick and easy:

.
  • Completely wash your hair and lightly blow dry it.
  • Take a handful of hair and apply the toner.
  • Wear protective gloves and, if the toner requires oxidant, prepare the appropriate mixture.
  • .
  • Apply toner to damp hair - start with the areas that need it most; start at the roots.
  • .
  • Let the toner sit on the hair for 15-45 minutes - depending on the desired results and the manufacturer's recommendations on the packaging.
  • .
  • Rinse hair thoroughly until water runs clear.
  • .
  • Apply hair conditioner.
  • .
. How often can you use a hair toner?.

Hair toners are safe and non-invasive, so you can use them without worrying about the health and condition of your hair. The effects of hair toning last for several weeks or for 8-10 washes. Immediately afterwards, when the colour fades, you can use the toner again. Hair toner is the perfect solution for tired hair and for people who just want to get started with colouring.

. Do you need an activator for a toner?.

In order to activate many toners, or semi-permanent dyes, an oxidant is needed, but at a much lower concentration than traditional dyes. Some hair toners - such as Palette Platinum and Ashy Blonde - do not require an activator.
