How does the collagen calculator work?

The Natu.Care Collagen Calculator is a tool that estimates the levels of collagen in your body. It is developed based on data from several scientific studies such as Varani et al, 2006 or Kamp et al, 2022 (check the sources at the bottom of the page for details).

Please note that this is not a diagnostic tool and that real-world collagen levels may be different to those suggested by this calculator.

Scientific work suggests that the average annual loss of collagen - which starts to progress from age 25 - is about 1.65%. By the age of about 50, men and women lose collagen at the same rate, but the menopause period, accelerates the loss in women.

During the first 5 years of this stage, you will lose ⅓ of all your current collagen. What's more, over the next 15 years the annual loss will be greater, at around 2.1%. This results in up to 13% less collagen at age 80 in women than in men.

Are collagen levels always the same in people of the same age?

No, collagen levels are also affected by other factors. The main and most important aspect that causes the loss of the youth protein is age. Nevertheless collagen in the body is destroyed also:

oxidative stress,
UV radiation,
deficiency vitamins and minerals,
smoking,
abuse of alcohol,
consumption of large amounts of sugar,
excessive stress,
lack of exercise,

By avoiding these factors, you will reduce the loss of collagen from the body and therefore avoid the symptoms of collagen deficiency, such as poorer skin condition, weakened nails or joint pain.

What indicates low collagen levels in the body?

Low levels of collagen in the body can manifest in a number of ways. The protein of youth is the basic building block of skin, hair, nails and tendons and joints. A drop in its levels can be seen as a number of physical changes, as well as abnormalities in general wellbeing.
