How to use Wella toners and other colouring products?

.

Wella Color Touch

.
  • Mix the toner and activator in a ratio of 1:2 (a kitchen scale will be helpful to measure out the correct amounts).
  • Apply the toner and activator mixture.
  • Apply the mixture to washed, dried and damp hair (don't forget to wear protective gloves).
  • Let it sit.
  • Leave the toner on the hair for about 20 minutes.
  • .
  • Rinse hair thoroughly.
  • .
  • Apply hair conditioner or Wella colour stabiliser.
  • .

Wella Color Fresh mask

.
  • Wash and towel dry hair.
  • .
  • Prepare protective gloves.
  • .
  • Apply the mask to damp hair - applying it to individual strands.
  • Place the mask on the hair.
  • Leave the mask on your head for approximately 10 minutes.
  • .
  • Rinse your hair thoroughly and... you're done - the manufacturer notes that there is no need to additionally apply conditioner.
  • .

Apply the Wella Color Touch mask to washed and damp hair (be sure to wear protective gloves!). Apply it to individual strands and leave the toner on your head for up to 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and... done! The manufacturer indicates that it is not necessary to additionally apply a hair conditioner.

Wella Color Fresh Create

.
  • Diligently wash and pre-dry hair
  • .
  • Apply the dye - you can do this directly or pre-mix it with Color Fresh Tommorow Clear at a ratio of 1:1 - 1:3 (depending on the intensity of the effects you want to achieve; you don't need an activator).
  • Let the dye set.
  • Leave the toner on your hair for about 20 minutes - this is what the manufacturer recommends. If you want pastel shades, 5-10 minutes is enough,  and if you want more intensity, keep the toner on your hair for up to 30 minutes.
  • .

Beautiful hair is one thing, but taking care of your skin and nails is just as important.

Wella toners - expert opinion

.

What do the experts think of Wella toners? We asked hairdresser, stylist and blogger, Adrianna Pydzinska, for her opinion.

Wella Color Touch

.

It works in a similar way to L'Oreal Dia Light or Matrix Color Sync. It's a professional semi-permanent paint without ammonia, with direct pigments for which you need an activator (in the case of Color Touch, preferably 1.9% or 4%).

.
For a while I used them in my day job. Color Touch gives you a large selection of shades so you can create individual colour blends. Hair is shiny and soft to the touch.

Wella Color Fresh Mask

.

Temporary solution for up to a few washes. Works best on bleached hair, on natural and dark hair the effect will be more subtle.

.
A good option for maintaining colour after colouring or toning. With the products in this range, you can experiment and create bolder styles without worrying about them being permanent.

Wella Color Fresh Create

.

This is a great creative option for creating bold colours and subtle shades.

.
Tomorrow Clear gives more possibilities when used to dilute colour. It's like adding blueberries to natural yoghurt. The more you add them, the more intense the colour will be.

On previously bleached hair, the effects will be more intense.

  • .
  • delicate flush of colour without ugly tones,
  • .
  • safe composition,
  • .
  • easy application,
  • .
  • possibility to experiment,
  • .
  • pleasant scent,

  • .
  • no visible regrowth,
  • .

You may encounter complaints that the colour sometimes washes out quickly, and that the final effect itself is flat and lifeless.

FAQ

.
. What is the best toner for Wella blonde hair?.

The most commonly recommended Wella toners are the Color Touch range and Color Fresh (both cream and mask). If you want to use Color Touch, choose shades starting with number 10 or 9 - they are the lightest on the palette. Color Fresh mask is toning and conditioning in one. For other blonde hair toners, see our hair toner ranking.

.
. Where to buy Wella toners.

You can buy Wella toners both in drugstores (e.g. Hebe, Rossmann or Douglas) and in specialist hairdressing shops - including online ones. Remember that you need to buy an activator separately for Wella colouring products, although the concentration should be much lower than for permanent hair dyes.

.
. What is the difference between a toner and a hair dye?.

Toners are much safer than permanent dyes. A hair toner - known as semi-permanent hair dye - primarily does not penetrate deep into the hair structure. The toner merely envelops the hair shaft. The colour fastness is therefore much lower. It usually ranges from a few to several washes or a few weeks.

. What toners are used by hairdressers?.

Hairdressers and professional stylists use toners that are safely formulated and gentle on the scalp. They help them to refresh the colour, correct after slip-ups during colouring or get rid of unwanted highlights. Hair toners are also a good alternative to permanent dyes - especially when it comes to quick or minor colour changes. We've rounded up the best hair toners in our rankings.

. When to use a hair toner.

Hair toners are usually applied to washed and damp hair. Toner works best on blonde and bleached hair, but you can apply it to any hair type - natural or coloured alike. It will get rid of yellow tones, refresh and improve the colour and, if you wish, change to a bolder colour without worrying that you will have to put up with it for a long time if you don't like it.

. Does toning damage hair?.

Modern hair toners prioritise safety in application. Most of them contain no (or very little) ammonia or PPD. The best toners do not damage the hair. They are also enriched with substances that make hair soft, shiny and nourished after colouring.

. How often can a hair toner be used?.

After application of the toner, the intense colour lasts for several to several washes. Thanks to its safe composition and many nutrients, you can use the toner practically whenever you feel the desire and need - without worrying about health or the condition of your hair. Among other things, you can use it to refresh and correct or for the occasional colour change to something a little bolder.
