What is excessive hair loss?

.

Excessive hair loss is a disorder caused by the interruption of the hair growth cycleand. It can develop gradually or occur suddenly. Depending on the cause, it can be temporary or permanent.

You have 100,000 - 150,000 hairs on your head, and you lose between 50 and 100 every day . That's a number that's virtually unnoticeable - even if you occasionally find them on your brush or pillow, don't worry about it.

The main symptom of alopecia is losing more hair than usual. However, there are others:

  • increasing parting,
  • .
  • reduction of the hairline,
  • .
  • pain and itching of the scalp,
  • .
  • frequent and more clogged sink or shower drain,
  • .

The problem of hair loss brings with it many concerns - from emotional, to social:

.
  • women with baldness report marital problems (40%) and problems at work (63%)and;
  • beautiful hair makes women feel better (81%) and boosts their confidence (72%);
  • .
  • 81% of women report that thinning hair negatively affects appearanceand and perception as a woman;
  • .
  • Men in the UK are more concerned about losing their hair than they are about their job .

Most common causes of hair loss and risk factors

.

Doctors are not entirely sure why hair falls out. They have distinguished several factorsand, which can have a significant impact on this:

  • hormones - mainly abnormal androgen levels;
  • .
  • genes;
  • .
  • birth;
  • .
  • stress;
  • .
  • chemotherapy;
  • .
  • blood-thinning drugs
  • .
  • contraceptive pills;
  • .
  • x-ray radiation;
  • .
  • cosmetic procedures - too frequent washing, perming, colouring and bleaching of hair (hair toners are definitely gentler);
  • health conditions - thyroid disease (e.g. Hashimoto's or hypothyroidism), diabetes, anaemia or anaemia resulting from iron deficiency;
  • diet - low-protein diets or drastic starvation can cause hair problems;
  • .

Trichotillomania should also be mentioned. This is a psychological disorder manifested by pulling out and eating one's own hair. It usually affects teenagers and young adultsand. "The hair is not digested, which can lead to obstruction of the digestive tract," warns Ilona Krzak. If you notice similar behaviour in yourself or a loved one, ask a specialist for a consultation.

What for hair loss - what are my options?

.

Remember that in a healthy body, healthy ... hair. The rule is simple - if you don't have enough vitamins and minerals in your body, your hair weakens, dulls, loses its shine and falls out.

Luckily, you have several options to help you prevent, as well as curb, hair loss.

.

Remember!

.

The most important thing is to identify the causes of excessive hair loss - seek the help of a trichologist or dermatologist. A detailed clinical history and examinations (including laboratory tests) will help to make an effective diagnosis. Only in this way will you be able to eliminate the causes and undertake effective therapy.

The fight against hair loss can be undertaken on many levels:

.
  • lifestyle - a balanced diet, as well as healthy sleep and a proper bedtime rhythm to ensure proper regeneration of the entire body;
  • .
  • daily care - scalp scrubs, hair conditioners, shampoo tailored to the needs of the scalp - more details to follow;
  • .
  • hair supplements and vitamins - supplementing deficiencies will help strengthen and stimulate hair growth;
  • .
  • shampoos and medications for hair loss - in more severe cases, targeted measures will be necessary;
  • .
  • medical treatments - cleansing trichological treatments or needle mesotherapy may be necessary, and in extreme cases even a transplant;
  • .

How to choose the best supplement for hair loss?

.

Effective supplementation should be tailored to your current needs. Most of the ingredients should be provided in your daily diet, and supplements should be an additional support for you.

In the compiled list, we have detailed the active ingredients that support both the scalp and the hair itself - from their building blocks and structure to stimulating growth.

A few of the most important are:

.
  • Biotin (vitamin B7 or vitamin H) - studiesand suggest that hair loss may be related to biotin deficiency.
  • Field horsetail extract - is a source of silica, which affects hair structureand.
  • .
  • Sulphur amino acids and organic sulphur (MSM) - strengthen keratin in the hair, improve hair structure and stimulate hair growth .
  • .
  • Vitamin C - stimulates the natural production of collagen , an important building block of hair. It is particularly helpful for hair loss caused by iron deficiencies .
  • .
  • Zinc - studiesand suggest a strong correlation between zinc deficiency and hair loss, which grew back after adequate supplementation.

Well, these products should also contain vitamin A, copper or iron.

When considering a product for hair loss, go for OTC medicines first. OTC medicines must meet quality and quantity standards, contain ingredients with proven effects, and go through a series of requirements for manufacture and inclusion in the market - a guarantee of safety for you.

The following is a good way to find out more about OTC medicines.

When faced with a choice between two supplements, always choose the one with standardised ingredients and confirmed by independent testing. This way, you will know whether and in what quantity the active ingredient is present.

How to care for healthy and beautiful hair? Cosmetologist advice

Caring for your hair and taking care of it on a daily basis is more than just washing and applying conditioner. In consultation with cosmetologist, Katarzyna Srebr, we've put together a little guide to help you look after your hair in a thoughtful and informed way.

Hair conditioners and daily care

.

There is no perfect recipe for hair and scalp care. A lot depends on your hair type - its porosity, length, colour, curl, density - but also on your scalp, because after all, the look and condition of your hair is a reflection of your scalp. Look out for sebaceous gland activity, the presence (or absence) of dry or oily scales, as well as any thinning or shedding problems.

Taking all of this into account, it's a good idea to prepare a personalised care plan that addresses any current problems.

Here are 5 practical tips you can implement for yourself:

  1. The shampoos you use should be tailored to your scalp first and foremost - if you have oily skin, use a slightly stronger, thorough cleansing shampoo once or twice a week. On other days, focus on formulas that help maintain physiology and proper microflora. For drier or flakier skins, gentle shampoos that moisturise and rebuild the hydrolipidic barrier will be applicable.
  2. .
  3. Conditioners used after each wash should not be applied to the scalp -they have no scalp-supporting properties.
  4. Choose conditioners to suit your hair type and current needs - specially for you, we have compiled a list of the best hair conditioners.
  5. .
  6. Apply a trichology scrub to your scalp once a week before shampooing - this will give your shampoo an extra boost.
  7. .
  8. Use hair masks - they deeply moisturise, nourish and smooth the hair structure.

What can you do in addition to conditioners and supplements?

.

When hair conditioners are not enough, consider oiling your hair.

It is regarded as one of the most effective ways to smooth hair and give it the desired shine.

.
There are a great many oils that are suitable for external use on hair - some of the most versatile are argan oil, linseed oil, macadamia oil and even olive oil. To start with, I recommend testing a few types to see which oil your hair will like best.
.

.

How to oil your hair?

.
    .
  • Coat dry hair with a thin layer of oil.
  • .
  • Leave it on for a few hours or overnight.
  • .
  • Wash the oil off thoroughly - you can emulsify the oil beforehand, for example with a hair conditioner.

If you are nevertheless struggling with excessive hair loss, thinning hair, lack of vitality or a weak and thin hair structure, pure rubs may be a good solution.

If you are struggling with excessive hair loss, thinning hair, lack of vitality or a weak and thin hair structure, pure rubs may be a good solution.

Patients are highly concentrated preparations that act precisely on the hair follicle - stimulating it to work and encouraging hair to grow faster.

.
Please remember to make sure your scalp is in good condition before using the rub. It should not be contaminated, irritated or itchy before using the rubs

What treatments are worth investing in?

It may be, however, that the problem will not go away. Then the most important issue will be the correct diagnosis of the problem. Health centres keep on offering new deals and promotions, but before you choose any treatment, take advice from an experienced trichologist

Why is this so important?

Why is this so important?

.

Not all treatments are suitable for everyone - especially invasive ones such as needle and micro-needle mesotherapy, tissue stimulators or PRP plasma. Despite this, they are often performed in clinics or surgeries.

.
Doing an invasive procedure on an unqualified person in a worst-case scenario can worsen the problem of hair loss and alopecia and even lead to scarring of the hair follicles, which is an irreversible process!
.
Catherine Silver.

Katarzyna SrebrCosmetologist

.
.

Fully safe treatments that anyone can benefit from are classic, cleansing trichology treatments.

Professional chemical, enzyme or cavitation scrubs, hyperbaric oxygen or special safe shampoos are used for thorough cleansing. The mixtures of preparations used in the subsequent stages are always tailored to the current needs of the skin

.
If you are struggling with the problem of hair loss you can also opt for oxygen infusion made with a stimulating formula, micro-current or radiofrequency. All these technologies have a maximum stimulating effect on the hair follicle, while remaining completely safe also for people with problematic and sensitive skin.
.
Catherine Silver.

Katarzyna SrebrCosmetologist

.

As good practice in prophylaxisandhair loss is also mentioned:

  • protecting the hair from sunlight and other sources of UV light;
  • .
  • stopping smoking;
  • .
  • choosing loose hairstyles (no tight braids, buns or ponytails);
  • .
  • gently drying your hair (avoid wiping it firmly with a towel and twisting it to make a turban);
  • .
  • a balanced diet rich in nutrients, especially iron and protein;
  • .

Care for healthy and beautiful hair should be comprehensive. The results of studiesand confirm that for the best results, a healthy lifestyle, supplementation and proper care are essential.

Summary

.
.

Hair loss affects both men and women, and even children. The problems associated with it can go far beyond aesthetic considerations, so remember that:

  • Hair loss is a disorder that can occur suddenly or develop over years, and can take on a temporary or permanent nature.
  • Hair loss is a disorder that can occur suddenly or develop over years, and can take on a temporary or permanent nature.
  • Hair loss and alopecia do not have a single cause, but many are interconnected.
  • Hair loss is a disorder that can occur suddenly or develop temporarily or permanently.
  • Hair loss can be hormonal, genetic, dietary, as well as related to stress or an unhealthy lifestyle, among other reasons.
  • One way to prevent and inhibit the effects is through hair loss preparations.
  • .
  • There are both OTC medicines and supplements for hair loss available on the market.
  • .
  • When choosing a hair loss supplement, check that it has standardised ingredients - you will be sure you are getting what is claimed by the manufacturer.
  • Care for hair and scalp should be holistic and include hair care, diet, supplementation as well as cosmetic treatments.
  • .
  • Both supplementation and medical or cosmetic treatments should be preceded by a consultation with a dermatologist or trichologist, as well as laboratory tests to determine what ingredients you are lacking.

FAQ

.
. What to buy at the pharmacy for hair loss.

There are many preparations available for hair loss: shampoos, medications, specialised conditioners or supplements to correct deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. In addition to compounds such as biotin or zinc, the right dose of collagen, which is one of the main building blocks of your hair, may also be important. Consult with a trichologist or dermatologist on any purchase, and beforehand, do the appropriate testing to determine exactly which elements you are lacking.

. Are hair supplements effective?.

There are no specific supplements that focus on hair loss in their effects. There are, however, supplements with formulations that can help their overall condition.

Hair weakens and falls out through deficiencies of vitamins and minerals, among other things. Supplementing these will help to properly regenerate and stimulate the scalp and hair to function properly. Blood tests will determine what deficiencies you have and select the right products for conscious supplementation. It is certainly worth taking care of biotin, zinc, MSM or collagen.

. What are the best preparations for hair loss?.

The best hair loss product is one that you buy based on a specialist diagnosis from a trichologist or dermatologist. Hair loss products should always address your current needs and concerns. Some of the most important ingredients you need to take care of are vitamins and minerals as well as biotin, zinc, MSM and collagen.

. What vitamins are missing when hair falls out?

If your hair is falling out by the handful during combing, it could be due to a vitamin and nutrient deficiency. The condition and healthy appearance of hair is influenced by iron, biotin, sulphur amino acids (MSM), vitamin C, zinc, copper or vitamin A. Also choose the best collagen in a well-absorbed form for additional hair nourishment.

. Does lack of vitamin D cause hair loss?.

Vitamin D stimulates cell growth (including hair follicles), promotes regeneration and regulates the epidermal renewal cycle. Vitamin D3 deficiency can cause, among other things, inhibition of hair follicle cell growth, disruption of the normal hair growth cycle, inflammation, and excessive hair loss.

. What illnesses cause hair loss.

Hair problems and increased hair loss can be caused by thyroid diseases (hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism), chronic autoimmune and systemic diseases (hepatic diseases, renal failure, Hashimoto's, rheumatoid arthritis, coeliac disease) or endocrine disorders (e.g. PCOS, or polycystic ovary syndrome).

. How often to wash hair that is falling out?.

Daily hair washing can exacerbate hair loss. Experts advise doing this a maximum of three times a week. The exception to this would be hair with a tendency to become oily. Remember to use hair conditioners after every wash. Hair masks and regular oiling will also be a good support. Once a week before washing, you can apply a special trichology scrub to support the effects of shampoo.
